Provider Training: Guardianship and Decision Making

June 9th, 2022

The Bureau of Developmental Disability Services is committed to supporting our provider network in working toward a true person-centered system which includes ensuring that those who support individuals honor individual rights and understand the role of guardians.

As part of that commitment, BDDS is hosting a web-based training opportunity focused on individual rights within the context of guardianship. We are pleased to offer this in partnership with Indiana Disability Rights. Melissa Keyes, executive director of Indiana Disability Rights, will cover:

  • Self-determination and decision-making
  • Guardianship role and responsibilities
  • Guardians and home-and community-based services
  • Addressing disagreements
  • How you can support decision-making

This opportunity is being provided at no cost to participants and is mandatory for all current Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services home-and community-based services providers.

All others, including individuals with disabilities, program managers, direct support professionals, case managers and families are welcome to attend.

Advance registration is required to receive a link to join. You must use the registration link sent to you by Zoom in order for us to track attendance.

We are offering this training at three different times. Please be aware that each session is capped at 500 attendees, so if your first choice is full, please choose another date.

If you need accommodations to participate, please email jennifer.akers@fssa.in.gov at least three days prior to the event.

If you have questions, need additional resources or support, or have suggestions for additional training, please contact us at BQIS.Help@fssa.IN.gov.

We look forward to continuing to educate and support providers to empower individuals to live, love, learn, work, play and pursue their dreams!
